3D Modeling

While 2D drawings have traditionally been the norm in bulk material handling, with the improvement in modelling capabilities and advanced 3D software, we highly advocate 3D modelling in Engineering for the following reasons:

  • Better visualization and perspective: Presenting your product in 3D has an advantage of being viewed from multiples perspectives. This makes it easier to visualize the product thereby clearly communicating to all the engineering disciplines, designers, fabricators, contractors and the end user what the final product should look like. 
  • Quicker decision-making process: The preliminary design phase is highly collaborative across disciplines to ensure all important decisions are made early in the design. A 3D representation of the project gives an opportunity to bring in non-CAD executives and stakeholders that are not intimately familiar with the project to participate in the design process who can then make informed decisions with a 3D model given it’s clear and understandable manner over its 2D counterpart.
  • Improved maintenance and safety: With a realistic view of the project in place, appropriate amount of time can be spent on reviewing maintenance and safety factors associated with the project. This allows for creative improvements to the design that can be beneficial to the maintenance personnel and operators.
  • Reduced Installation costs: The interaction between structures and equipment can be easily shown and observed in a 3D model. This greatly reduces installation costs by avoiding interference in the design phase itself and avoiding any last minute surprised while installing the equipment on site.
  • Parametric Modelling: Quite often multiple revisions needs to be made during a design review process. This results in multiple modifications to a 3D solid’s (or drawings if 2D is used) individual dimensions or parameters. However, with parametric modelling the designer needs to alter just one parameter while all other parameters get adjusted automatically. Thus, parametric models focus on the steps in creating a shape/model and parameterize them. This benefits product design engineering services providers a lot.
  • Increased Productivity & quick design turnaround: The number of iterations required to select the best fit regarding the size as well of the aesthetics of the model reduces as the parameters of the model can be changed without re-creating it, significantly increasing the productivity and reducing time spent in iterative design.
